MISS LALA WITH........KIRISA SAMUELS

Professional dancer Kirisa Samuels speaks to Miss Lala about her career as a dancer.  Kirisa has worked with some of the top names in the industry including Ne-Yo, Kanye West, Pixie Lott, Cheryl Cole and many more. With a heavy body of work and her obvious passion of dance, Karissa shares her experiences as one of the hottest dancers in London.

1.  How long have you been a professional dancer? 12 Years

2.  What’s the best job you have booked as a dancer? Well I would say Whitney Houston. I did the Brits, MTV Awards and Top of the pops. At the time I was new and quite young in the business so it was a very exciting time.

3. Is there anyone you haven’t worked with that you would give your “right arm” to work with? Janet Jackson

4. What’s the most difficult thing about your line of work? You have to be thick skinned and be able to let rejection and critsism go over your head.

5. Do you specialise more than one area of dance? Yes, I’m trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, modern and street dance.

6. A lot of dancer see the US as a place they want to build a career, is that something that you aspire to? If so, why? If I was 10 years younger I would definatly go over there to dance. There just seems to be a lot more opportunities over there.

7. Who’s choreography excites you and why? Priscilla Samuels, no matter what you’re dancing to, the moves she creates sits with your body perfectly and flows. Her choreography is amazing

8. What advice would you give to anyone wanting to be a dancer? Make sure you get training in different styles, so if a choreographer throws anything at you, you’re able to do it and your able to book a variety of jobs.

9. If you were not a professional dancer, what would your chosen career be? I probably would of persued my singing career.

10. What are your future goals? I would love to open my own dance school.

MISS LALA ROUND UP

Beyonce Knowles, does she deserve her Grammy success?

The Grammy Awards were the talk of the week in the music world.  Beyonce made a “Grammy” record for being the first woman to scope a total of six awards (go Bey Bey).  Whether you like Beyonce or not, you cannot deny the “monster” year that she has had with her music.  She works hard and her hard work has paid off, which has been acknowledged by the Grammys, well done Beyonce!  The question on everyone’s lips now, is if Beyonce and Jay-Z are going to start creating mini Beyonces and Jiggers loll.  She shows no signs of slowing down, and why should she? All too often women have had their lives planned out for them, school, marriage, kids etc.  Why does a woman have to be looked upon as incomplete if she does not have any kids? No matter how successful you are as a female, no children often mean that “your life isn’t done yet”.  Surely looking at the success of women like Beyonce shows that she is very much in control of her life and what she wants to achieve, surely it’s better to know for sure that you want kids, than to have them just for the sake of having them.  I’m sure Beyonce and Jay-Z would like children, but that’s a matter for them as a couple should decide on, not for the rest of the world to pressurise and speculate.  We need to be more concerned with the underage teens that are having kids way before their time, than worry about a woman who clearly has her shit together. Go deh, Beyonce celebrate your success!

Singer Daniel Beddingfield, can his music make a great return?

I was surprised to hear that UK pop artist Daniel Beddingfield was causing quite a stir at his record label (Polydor).  The singer, who had hits with “Gotta Get Thru This” and “If Your Not The One”, has managed to cause a divide at his record company in regards to the release of his up and coming album. I remember Daniel bursting onto the scene with “Gotta Get Thru This” in the UK, especially as most people thought he was yet another black male from the house and garage fraternity.  Surprise and shock, was the response of most people when it came to light that he was in fact a white male “born again” Christian lol.  Daniel more than proved himself, with an amazing set of pipes and a smash hit album.  He’s been away for some time now, and it seems that he has been working on trying to shock/surprise people again.  If he’s causing such a commotion at his record label, I can’t wait to hear the finished result to see what all the fuss was about.

Grime boy turned actor, Bashy.  Is Shank portraying the inevitable of London life?

The hotly anticipated new UK Brit flick had its UK premier this week.  The movie is called Shank and features grime/hip hop MC Bashy and Adam Deacon (Kidulthood/Adulthood).  The film is set in futuristic London 2015, where the streets have been taken over by gangs.  When I read the synopsis of the film, the first thing I thought “hmm, isn’t that the state of London now” lol.  If anyone reads a daily newspaper, there seems to be a story in there nearly every day about gang violence, I think the film is predicting what will probably eventually happen (especially in certain areas of London) if the government doesn’t do something about the rise of gangs across the country.  Sometimes there is slight truth in art.

Singers and producers of

We Are The World for Haiti singers

As the world tries to come to terms with the devastating effects of the Haiti earthquake, celebrities have been coming together to produce charity singles.  The UK singers have been organised by music mogul Simon Cowell, in the US Wyclef Jean has managed to convince singer/songwriter Lionel Ritchie to re-create “We Are The World”.  Both singles are available to buy now.  Many critics have been blasting the celebrities for trying to gain notoriety from trying to make money from a tragedy of this magnitude.  Are they in this because they care? Or do they see this as another opportunity to stay in the lime light?  I think it’s beyond laughable that anyone would not want to help where they can in a situation like this.  Governments always have their hands tied when it comes to catastrophes like this, so if a celebrity can pull in millions of dollars to get a cause like this noticed, what’s the problem? If they didn’t help, there would be so much more criticism for being uncaring and greedy, so either way you can’t win.  My motto is, always give with a willing heart, as long as your intentions are pure, that’s all that counts.
