KELLY ROWLAND: "I USED TO HATE MY DARK SKIN"

Destinys Child member Kelly Rowland has publicly spoken out about how she used to feel about her dark complexion while growing up. She speaks about how she went through a serious of identity crisis when she was younger.

She said "I went to a school that was predominantly white and I was the only black girl there," she explains. "I remember thinking I don't want to be as dark as I am, I want to be a little fairer. I didn't want to be me."

She said that Tina Knowles (Beyonces mother) helped her to love the colour of her skin. She was told by Tina "I remember she sat me in front of the mirror and she was like, 'Girl, look at how pretty you are!"

I have met and worked with Kelly Rowland before, and she has the BEST skin I have ever seen. Its actually FLAWLESS. Dark and smooth, gorgeous.

I just want to shout out to all my chocolate sisters from a caramel sister. If you feel or have ever felt the way that Kelly has, know that......

a) Black don't crack

b) The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice

I have a few dark skinned friends who have been made to feel this way about there skin. It annoys me to no end that they are made to feel like this. Being a woman of colour I know how it feels to feel like your not "beautiful" as you are not represented as so in society. What I say is, "society, if you don't like my skin tone/colour, then you can kiss my BLACK @RSE!

Let that be your mantra and don't let no-one still your shine!!!!
